After graduating from the therapeutic massage program at Spa Tech Institute in South Portland, Maine in September, 2005, I opened a massage practice in my home in Westbrook, and also massaged clients in their homes. On June 5, 2006, I opened a massage room at Maine Running Company located at 563 Forest Avenue in Portland, Maine. I am licensed both by the City of Westbrook and the State of Maine. I am Nationally Certified in Therapeutic Massage and a professional member of American Massage Therapy Association. I also attended the 45 hour CORE Institute Sports Bodywork Certification Program with Bryan Buckley in March, 2007. Credentials prior to my massage training include a Bachelor of Arts in Social Welfare from Lock Haven University in Pennsylvania, and national certification as a litigation paralegal with over 27 years of experience working in law firms in Maine and New Hampshire.
I believe that (1) other than injuries due to trauma, essentially all injury in sports is caused by structural and muscular imbalances, (2) muscular imbalance and structural irregularities do not heal themselves, and (3) simply stopping training does not correct an imbalance. I use a variety of techniques to relieve discomfort and pain from acute and chronic muscle tension; to address muscle imbalances to improve flexibility and range of motion which allows an increase in strength and endurance to improve performance; and to relax muscles and induce a calm mental state to balance the body energetically.
I strive to use the art and science of massage to help people take a proactive role in their health and well-being through therapeutic touch. As a member of the Maine Running Hall of Fame (inducted in 2000), I have a particular interest in working with runners and other athletes and people who lead an active lifestyle.
My mission is to provide a relaxing environment to enable my clients to receive all that they require to enable the body to heal itself, and to be relaxed, restored and refreshed.
